ABOUT THIS BOAT TRIP
This trip is all about seals, birds, and relaxed family fun, full of laughter, excitment and new adventures for families on holiday.
We pride ourselves in making the experience fun for everyone and nothing delights children more than the chance to ‘skipper the boat’.
This is a short family orientated trip that cruises within the confines of Lochbay and it’s islands, where the sea is more sheltered. Lochbay is a special area of conservation for seals and they have a number of haulout sites around the rocky skerries, and island shores. The local population is mostly common seals and they give birth to their pups in early June. You will see mums suckling their young in the sun, giving the pups ‘piggy back rides’ and later teaching them to fish. The young can be curious and often come close to the boat to investigate us.
There are lots of birds in the area including rafts of baby goslings, herons which look prehistoric and children love them, gulls, oystercatcher and so much more. …… keep watching, other widlife might pop by! Often children just like spotting jelly fish in the clear waters and where it’s shallow we can sometimes spot shoals of small fish and crabs in the kelp reefs or on the seabed. Maybe we’ll lift a fishing creel and see what is inside!
A favourite with children is the opportunity to play Captain and to ‘skipper the boat’, supervised off course! The skipper is a big child too and loves the laughter and jokes on a family trip, which are usually relaxed and fun. You can often hear the laughter from shore as the boat heads acrosss the loch.
Elena C is a stable vessel, with high sides, and is ideal for small children who will be provided with lifejackets. This short trip is ideal for younger children who may not have the patience for a long trip and families of small children.
